The HTC Droid DNA isn’t in stores until November 21st, but that isn’t stopping the modding community from already finding a way to get the phone rooted ahead of its official release.
So what’s all involved? Apparently, you start by unlocking the bootloader using the HTC bootloader unlock tool. From there you will be able to use fastboot to flash a modified kernel that will allow root access, you’ll also use fastboot for flashing the ClockWorkMod recovery. After that, it’s just a matter of downloading and flashing the root file.
The early modding success already seen with the Droid DNA certainly makes this 1080p phablet even more exciting than it already was. For those that need a refresher, the Droid DNA not only has a 1920 x 1080 resolution, it is also powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB of RAM. Other specs include an 8MP rear cam, 2.1MP front cam, 4G LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, Beats Audio, a 2020mAh battery and wireless charging. As for the OS, we get Android 4.1 with HTC Sense 4+.
Keep in mind that even though the phone is somewhat open now, Verizon could eventually lock it down further through an update. All we can do is hope that they don’t bother to do so. What do you think, are you excited for the HTC Droid DNA or not?
